Congress salutes Israel on U.N. post

Congress salutes Israel on U.N. post The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously congratulated Israel after its U.N. ambassador was chosen as a vice president of the General Assembly.
Dan Gillerman, the Israeli envoy, is the first Israeli to assume the yearlong post since Abba Eban held it in 1952. The House resolution, passed Thursday, also urges an end to the vilification of Israel at the United Nations and advocates Israel’s permanent membership in the Asian Group, which would accord it more rights. Arab and Muslim states have prevented Israel from taking a place in its natural regional grouping. Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) initiated the resolution. http://jta.org/
