Israel renews request for U.S. aid Israel renewed its request for special U.S. aid in funding the Gaza Strip withdrawal.
Shimon Peres, who is visiting Washington this week as emissary for Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, raised the issue of the special grant in talks with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Israel needs the money to relocate settlers evacuated from Gaza last year, especially in the underdeveloped regions of the Negev and Galilee.
The request was shelved following Hurricane Katrina. The payout has been approved in principle by the Bush administration but its details have yet to be hammered out. Ohio Senate condemns Iranian’s comments Ohio’s state Senate condemned recent Holocaust-denial comments by Iran’s president. State Sen. Jeff Jacobson said he hopes the resolution, which passed unanimously, becomes a model for other U.S. state legislatures, the Dayton Jewish News reported.
The international community has condemned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s statements.
