News for 07-07-06

07-07-06 - Israel kills 7 in Gaza Among Friday's violence in which medics said militants and civilians were killed, an air strike in northern Gaza killed two gunmen. The army said it had targeted armed men. Naturally. "At least 38 Palestinians, the majority of them militants, have been killed"- doubtful.

07-07-06 - Israel 'launches new Gaza strike' Troops backed by helicopters clashed with Palestinian gunmen near the main Karni commercial crossing. Several Palestinians were reported wounded.

07-07-06 - Israel presses Gaza assault, 31 killed An 11-year-old boy died Friday of wounds sustained in an Israeli shooting a day earlier near Beit Hanun in northern Gaza, medics said.

07-07-06 - 24 killed as Israel steps up Gaza assault "I expect the United States to use their veto, but I hope this won't be necessary because a lot of countries, particularly the Europeans, have told us that they cannot accept the text of this resolution," Israel's representative to the UN, Dan Gillerman, told public radio. The US is being used as dupe and fall guy for the war crimes committed by Israel, as usual.

07-07-06 - UN agency calls for humanitarian corridor to Gaza Strip The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has called for a humanitarian corridor to be established to enable food deliveries to the Gaza Strip whatever the military situation there.

07-07-06 - Rights group slams 'economic sanctions' against Palestinians "As the Occupying Power in the West Bank and Gaza, Israel bears the responsibility for the welfare of the Palestinian population,"

07-07-06 - Analysis: Health care crisis in Palestine Military checkpoints have also taken a toll; sixty-one women have given birth at checkpoints, resulting in 36 newborn deaths.

07-07-06 - Israeli soldier alive, says Hamas

07-07-06 - Israel has edge over U.S. in urban combat "They know they have to be prepared for the worse," he said in an interview. "They rely on heavily on armor and don't dismount anyone until they know the area is secure with tanks, large infantry carriers with tracks." Israel avoids casualties by staying in armored vehicles and by firing on EVERYONE. They don't care if they kill civilians - therein lies the difference between the US Army and that of Israel. And this despite the fact that Israelis trained our guys at Fort Bragg. US troops are sitting ducks in Iraq for every two-bit terrorist on the planet - and why? Whose war is this?

07-07-06 - Iran president criticizes Israeli offensive Iran's hard-line president warned Friday that Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip could set off an "explosion" in the Islamic world against Israel and its supporters.

07-07-06 - Some Palestinian govt workers to get partial wages

07-07-06 - Middle East: Commission allocates ?34 million in humanitarian aid to vulnerable Palestinian populations in the West Bank and Gaza and in Lebanon

07-07-06 - Call for international investigation of Gaza strikes Amnesty International today called for the establishment of an international investigation to examine the circumstances in which scores of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip in recent months.

07-07-06 - Israel suggests release if soldier freed Dichter said Israel could free some Palestinian prisoners as a goodwill gesture after Shalit is released and Hamas stops rocket attacks on Israel.

07-07-06 - Why It Rains: Hamas holding "Israeli" gas reserves hostage

07-07-06 - Israel hopes Koizumi to serve as mediator with Palestinians He will also pay an official visit to Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust memorial World leaders aren't allowed to visit Israel without the customary trip to the Holocaust memorial - thereby perpetuating Israel's exploitation of the victims thereof for its own political purposes.

07-07-06 - Rightists plan to resettle north Gaza "This is a great opportunity to raise the demand to return to the settlements," one activist said. They plan to pass the list on to the IDF and demand that they be permitted to resettle the area.

07-07-06 - Profiting from the Occupation - The Corporate Interests Fueling Conflict in Palestine Despite the centrality of the settlements as an obstacle to peace, supermarkets like Tesco and Waitrose still stock products grown or manufactured in West Bank settlements, labelling them as 'Made in Israel'. Although EU law requires settlement produce to be labelled for customs purposes, so as not to apply preferential tariffs to them, this information is not passed onto the customer, so settlement produce ends up mixed in with other Israeli fruit, vegetables and herbs. IN America, the only nation that Americans are legally prohibited from boycotting is? Israel. We would never have labels on food specifying whether it came from the Israeli-occupied territories or not.

07-07-06 - Gaza invasion conspicuously lacks ?exit strategy? you'll find that the timeline for the escalation of violence begins with the 'kidnapping' of Gilad, NOT the massacre of a family of eight on a beach and three Palestinian children a week later.

07-07-06 - Iran says Israel exploiting World Cup fever to hit Gaza A leading hardline Iranian cleric has accused Israel of exploiting international public attention on the World Cup in order to commit "dastardly deeds" in the Gaza Strip

07-07-06 - Funerals don't deter Gaza youth He said Mohammed was killed in an Israeli missile strike on a house that also killed three others and wounded seven. "They were all civilians in the street," he said The burden is not on Palestinians to keep civilians off of PALESTINIAN streets when the IDF INVADES their towns and cities. The burden is on ISRAEL to stick to the rules of engagement.

07-07-06 - Most Israelis want Hamas leaders assassinated: poll The vast majority of Israelis believe the Jewish state should assassinate leaders of the governing Palestinian movement Hamas in response to the crisis in Gaza, a newspaper poll published on Friday showed.

07-07-06 - Israeli army in for the long haul in Gaza Strip there are indications of a wider agenda to bury the Hamas-led government. Israel has detained eight Hamas cabinet members and 20 of its MPs, and targeted government infrastructure, including missile attacks on the offices of the prime minister and interior ministry.

07-07-06 - Difficult days for Gaza residents

07-07-06 - Arab leaders may hold key to Gaza calm Stuart Tuttle, the spokesman of the US Embassy in Tel Aviv. "We put the blame on the group that caused the raid and the kidnapping, and secondly, on the Hamas government for not taking on its responsibility to prevent terrorism, rather than helping precipitate these events."
No mention by US officials about the slew of civilians killed by Israel in the weeks prior to this event.

07-07-06 - The agony of Gaza there can be no justification for Israel's collective punishment of at least half of the civilian population in Gaza The Boston Globe will soon be lionized by pro-Israeli 'media watchdogs', I'm sure.

07-07-06 - APN calls on Bush to intervene in Gaza Americans for Peace Now called on President Bush to take "urgent and meaningful steps" to end the crisis in the Gaza Strip.

07-07-06 - Israel to allow Palestinians into Gaza Israel will allow thousands of Palestinians stranded in Egypt to enter the Gaza Strip through an Israeli crossing.

07-07-06 - U.S. silence about Israeli raid: A sign of friendship or weakness? The U.S. response has been to call on both sides to show restraint ? and to make clear that, in U.S. eyes, the party failing to do so is the Palestinians. ...Daniel Fried, the assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, told Zaman that Israel's incursions were conducted with a high regard for civilian life. Complete BS. This article goes on describing the kowtowing of American officials to Israel, but yet somehow this still is not to the author's liking. Somehow, it has become OUR job to secure the release of the soldier.

07-07-06 - Palestine-Israel hostage crisis can end peacefully "Attempting to resolve the crisis through military attacks will never work," said Sun, who has acted as China's Middle East envoy since April.

07-07-06 - Defensively, U.S. should be more like Israel By Caspar W. Weinberger, Jr. Yeh that's it. That's sure to win over the hearts and minds of the Arab world and beyond. Let's lob shells at folks on the beach. Or how about some American-only settlements in Iraq, hmm? Let's wall off a few dunams for some American 'settlers'. Mmm k.

07-07-06 - EU condemns Israeli Gaza incursions "The EU condemns the loss of lives caused by disproportionate use of force by the Israeli defence forces and the humanitarian crisis it has aggravated,"

07-07-06 - Basque and Bil'in Forces Keep the Beat
