04-13-07 - Palestinians face "crucial period" The top Swiss aid official in the occupied territories says that although a new government has given the population hope, the humanitarian crisis continues

We are Palestinian Arabs, the children of this land and we will act in a manner fitting for a people who oppose occupation and aggression."

04-13-07 - Southern Bethlehem protests land confiscation and Wall construction Southern Bethlehem is the scene of weekly nonviolent demonstrations as Israeli forces confiscate land and build the Wall which effectively isolate thousands of people from one another. On Friday the protest was dedicated to Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails as part of a week of activities for Tuesday's Day of the Prisoner.

04-13-07 - PCHR weekly report: "Two Palestinians killed, 15 including 7 children injured"

04-13-07 - Europe to donate $5,2 million to Palestinian presidency Five European countries and the European Commission signed an accord on Friday under which they will give $5.2 million for administrative reforms within the Palestinian presidency

04-13-07 - Jordanian king invites Israeli speaker to visit Jordan

04-13-07 - Israel 'human shield' suspension Amateur video footage shot earlier this week showed Israeli soldiers apparently forcing Palestinians to stand in front of their armoured jeep. Was he suspended because the incident was caught on film (and given widespread publicity by the int'l media)?

04-13-07 - U.S. hopes to ease Israeli fears over arms sales to Saudi Arabia The American defense establishment is determined to sell these systems to Arab states and will seek a compromise formula in order to prevent supporters of Israel in Congress from foiling the deal. Israel has also expressed interest in procuring a number of advanced systems from the U.S. and it is possible that Washington will agree to reconsider the sale of these to Israel in exchange for an easing of Israeli objections to the Saudi deal " in order to prevent supporters of Israel in Congress from foiling the deal".

04-13-07 - Palestinians fall into poverty as aid freeze bites

04-13-07 - The Final Act of Submission by Scott Ritter Despite the fact that Congress was only stating through this language a simple reflection of constitutional mandate, Speaker Pelosi and others felt that the inclusion of such verbiage put the security of the state of Israel at risk by eliminating important "policy options" for the president of the United States. In short, Israeli national security interests trumped the Constitution of the United States.....history will show that the Pelosi-led sellout to Israeli special interests endangered the viability and security of America as a sovereign state governed by the rule of law more than Jack Abramoff ever could.
I highly recommend you read the entire article. It is not as long as it appears to be. Ritter is finally getting as bent as any red-blooded American should be with regard to this topic. We've been sold down the river, folks. And the sooner you all realize it, the sooner we can do something about it.

Hagee spoke last month at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's policy conference.

04-13-07 - NINETIETH CONGRESS first session 1967 MADE PUBLIC 2007 Senator Hickenlooper. Well, I hope we get a full report on
this, because I can't help but draw the conclusion at this
moment, subject to such evidence as may develop later, that all
of the known facts, at least to me, indicate that they were
either blind or utterly stupid, or they deliberately identified
this ship and deliberately attacked it with the purpose of
sinking it, and I think in any event, it is very bad.
That is 3/4ths of the way down the page, and is of course a reference to the attack by Israel on the USS Liberty. I haven't gotten a chance to read through this entire transcript, but I will at some point. Feel free to do so.

04-13-07 - Sharon communicating with family - report Israel's Channel 10 news quoted Omri Sharon, the former prime minister's son, as saying that Sharon has recently shown a slight improvement; he communicates by squeezing his hand.

04-13-07 - Amcha: Secrecy May Turn Aipac Case Into Modern-Day Dreyfus Affair Imposing a veil of secrecy on the upcoming trial of two pro-Israel lobbyists could turn the case into a modern-day sequel to the Dreyfus affair, a Jewish group warned in a legal brief filed yesterday. Read that Ritter article (best one yet) from this news batch. AIPAC should be forced to register as a FOREIGN agent.

04-13-07 - Balad demands removal of gag order "Bishara is being persecuted because of his political and ideological views, and because of his national and democratic opinions. Former minister Shulamit Aloni has already told the media recently that she thought Shin Bet would try to set him up and this is what we think has happened. We wish to remove the uncertainty, we have a lot to say, if we were only allowed,"

04-13-07 - Sharp pen, cruel tongue The first big crisis in his relations with the Jewish organizations, says Novak, erupted long before he was baptized. This happened in the wake of a column in which Evans and Novak assaulted Israel after the Israel Defense Forces attack in 1967 on the American spy ship Liberty, in which 34 sailors were killed and 171 wounded...... In innumerable columns and television programs, the Catholic conservative crucified the neoconservatives - particularly the Jewish ones, headed by Richard Perle and Douglas Feith, close associates of former secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld. He asserted that they had dragged Bush into the Iraqi quagmire.
I knew I liked this Novak guy (despite the fact that he seems to enjoy bashing Plame).

04-13-07 - Eight months after war, Lebanese wounded and displaced continue to look to non-governmental sources for aid

04-13-07 - Robert Fisk: Fear and loathing on an American campus Al has been back at work attacking his old nemesis, Norm Finkelstein, who has just applied for tenure at DePaul University in the US where he is an assistant professor of politics. 04-13-07 - Hebron settlers try to buy more homes The officials said they were aware of a number of right-wing Jews in the United States - in New York, Chicago and Miami - who were helping to financing the purchase of Palestinian homes in Hebron. After the sales are completed, the American Jews also finance the movement abroad of the seller and his family - usually to Jordan. I doubt that they buy those homes at all, not especially since the Israeli army can seize them from the Palestinians at will, or make life so difficult for the occupants that they leave willingly.

04-13-07 - Hillel presents Iran sanctions petition Hillel presented Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) with 12,000 signatures on a petition urging Europe and the United Nations to support sanctions against Iran.

04-13-07 - Palestinian village celebrates lettuce festival

04-13-07 - Israeli daily says Hamas arming Jihad militants with rockets

04-13-07 - Iraq: Why the media failed Some commentators, like Philip Weiss, have begun to raise the sensitive issue of the role played by the neocons' concern for Israel's security. In years to come, historians will ponder why America under Bush adopted, in effect, the Israeli position toward the Arab world without the ramifications of this radical and extremely risky move ever being discussed, or indeed the parallels even being acknowledged.

04-13-07 - Lebanese mark civil war anniversary On April 13, 1975, Christian gunmen ambushed a bus carrying Palestinians in Beirut's eastern suburb of Ain al Rummaneh, sparking the civil war.

04-13-07 - The Hebron test The Shas ministers too, headed by Yishai who a moment before visiting Hebron met with the prime minister, back the Jewish presence there and the need to create a Jewish continuum between Kiryat Arba, the Cave of the Patriarchs, and Tel Rumeida.
Which is why the claim that this house was 'purchased' is very suspect. These folks have learned over the years that all they need to do is take something, get the IDF to protect them, start getting Israeli-only roads laid down, and they're good to go.

04-13-07 - Lest we forget ... Lebanon will not be driven back to civil war. That is the solemn oath taken by activists displaying for the first time the rusty bus that was full of Palestinian civilians when it came under attack in Ain al-Roummaneh in 1975, sparking the country's 15-year strife.

04-13-07 - David Brooks: The Neocon On Israel If the establishment of Israel was, as I believe it was, one of the best things that ever happened to Jews, it was the worst thing that ever happened to Palestinians. Israel is the worst thing that ever happened to Jews for the reason that Einstein envisioned back in the 40s. He was right.

04-13-07 - Where Was the Anger When Imus Insulted Arabs, Muslims? Imus said that Palestinians eat dirt, referred to Arafat's wife as "that fat pig of a wife," and then when his sidekicked called them "stinking animals, animals, just animals" as Imus nodded in agreement.

04-13-07 - Stanford Restricts Attendance at Speech by "Ex-terrorists" Members of the public and the news media will not be allowed to attend a student-run forum at Stanford University featuring a speaker who describes himself as a former Palestinian terrorist. 'Former Palestinian terrorists' are either jailed, deported, or prevented from entering this country in the first place. It's a mite odd that when these 'former terrorists' do the bidding of the Israeli lobby - not only are they allowed to stay, they are also allowed to give speeches all over the country.

04-13-07 - Analysis: From Tartus to Jerusalem "The Syrian people are very proud people. Syria is not occupying Israeli land. Israel is occupying the Golan Heights, Syrian land. Why should the president of Syria come on his knees to Israel?"

04-13-07 - Kefiyyeh makes unlikely leap from symbol of struggle to fashion signature The keffiyeh has had a long and varied history. But few could have imagined the traditional headdress worn by Arab men to protect them from the sun and sand would emerge in the spring of 2007 as a fashion accessory among urban teenagers and twentysomethings in New York and London. .....Across the pond in the United States, however, the fashion statement made by the keffiyeh was quickly marred by politics. The Jewish lobby in particular slammed the trend as an "endorsement of terrorism."
