05-02-07 - Palestinian shot dead near Gaza border with Israel A top Palestinian Health Ministry official, Muawiyah Hassanein, identified the man who was killed as a 34-year-old civilian. Hassanein said he was shot by Israeli soldiers while he and his brother were collecting scrap metal near the former Israeli settlement of Elei Sinai, close to the border fence.

05-02-07 - Israel's violations of the right to life: Palestinian child fatalities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory during 2006 In 2006, the Israeli military's lack of respect for Palestinian human rights and for the guidelines that seek to protect civilians in periods of armed conflict (as embodied in international humanitarian law) continued. Throughout the year, the Israeli military employed violent, excessive and disproporti onate force against Palestinian civilians.

05-02-07 - A High Price to Pay for Ignorance by Philip Giraldi ** Multiple carrier groups in the Persian Gulf can only mean that another preemptive war, this time against Iran, is either about to take place or is being viewed as a serious option......The leading Iranian émigré group is the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which pretends to have a network of independent sources within Iran but actually is largely dependent on information from Israeli intelligence. The "critical analysis" of events in Iran that reaches policy-makers in Washington frequently comes from it and other lobbying and advocacy groups such as the American Enterprise Institute, the Hudson Institute, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), all of which share an "Iran agenda" that calls for regime change. AIPAC is known to be the source of a position paper on Iran that most congressmen rely on to shape their own views. Israel's advocates, including peripatetic politicians such as ex-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, make frequent visits to the United States, where they have good access to the media and potential supporters, to reinforce the case that Iran must be dealt with forcefully.

05-02-07 - U.S. sets dates for Israeli, Palestinian moves The U.S. timeline, the first of its kind presented to both sides, includes specific dates for when Washington envisages Israel letting Palestinian bus and truck convoys travel between the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, a demand that has raised some Israeli objections.

05-02-07 - Canadian ex-Mossad agent recalls his career as a ?combatant? Now living in Victoria with his second wife and their daughter, Ross, self-composed and articulate, participated in a succession of dangerous, Hollywood-style missions, first as a field agent, then as a counter-terrorism liaison officer to the Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation and, finally, as a covert agent in Africa and Southeast Asia. Well if you're in the MOSSAD, how exactly is it that you could also be working for the CIA and FBI, particularly if you are a CANADIAN/ISRAELI citizen? This guy's story is a bit too far-fetched, methinks.

05-02-07 - UN Agency and Syria Agree on $2 Million Deal to Give Refugees Medical Aid

05-02-07 - For Barack Obama, a careful courting of Jewish vote By last week, however, the references to Palestinian suffering and Israeli heavy-lifting were gone, replaced by a less nuanced pro-Israel stance nearly indistinguishable from that of his chief rival for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Our politicians, particularly would-be presidents, must bow down and pledge their unwavering allegiance - to Israel. Ridiculous.

05-02-07 - Hezbollah chief 'respects' Israel for war report

05-02-07 - Jordan defends censorship of weekly Jordan on Wednesday defended its decision to ban this week's edition of Al-Majd newspaper, which was to carry a plan to dissolve the Palestinian parliament, on grounds of the kingdom's own national security.

05-02-07 - Growing Acceptance Seen Of Fiery Pastor Mainstream Jewish leaders are rushing to embrace him, despite continuing concerns about his apocalyptic views about Israel?s future, his open advocacy of war with Iran and his harsh domestic views, and critics are being pressured into silence. One reason may have to do with dollars and cents ? money raised through the ?Nights to Honor Israel? and other Christian Zionist events could be a boon for Jewish organizations in this country and charities in Israel......Critics say most of the money funneled to Israeli projects by Christian Zionist groups goes to charities in the West Bank and the Golan Heights That's unlawfully occupied territory, folks. Christian Zionists are aiding and abetting, and they (along with anyone else doing so) should be charged with it. When judgment day comes, is all of this money that the Christian Zionists have poured into pro-Israeli coffers going to stop the ensuing (purported) second holocaust? Folks that lie down with dogs, can expect to wake up with fleas.

05-02-07 - Closing The Halliburton Loophole This week Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) introduced legislation intended to close a loophole in existing Iran sanctions that has allowed some American companies ? including Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney?s former employer ? to continue doing business with Iran?s oil sector despite U.S. and international sanctions.
.....His measure is backed by AIPAC ? which is putting its legislative might behind the Iran Counter Proliferation Act.....Jewish organizations across the country are scrambling to get in their applications, now that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released long-delayed funds appropriated by Congress .....Nathan Diament, Washington representative for the Orthodox Union, also praised the DHS action, adding that the new guidelines ?track our preference for threat-based assessments.? There have been concerns that the department has distributed some homeland security money without respect to the level of threat facing institutions applying for grants; that will change under the new guidelines, Diament said. A rare moment of conflict between neocon-supporter(Cheney) and Israel-defenders. Cheney and the neocons have a mutually beneficial relationship. Both sides profit from the wars in the region, and the policy is geared towards making it a safer place for Israel (even though the Iraq war has failed to do so, but that was the primary reason for it).

05-02-07 - Remarks by President Bush and President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen after Meeting I would like on this occasion to highly express my gratification and my appreciation for the brave position taken by President Bush since the first moment he took power in this country, since he expressed his belief in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, side by side with the state of Israel. It's now nearly mid-2007, and still no Palestinian state. As has been the case for years, the Israelis (and then consequently the US) have laid down a gauntlet of conditions that the Palestinians must meet in order to achieve statehood.

05-02-07 - Sarkozy: Israel has right to protect itself The official argued that Israel's West Bank barrier, even when it cuts through Palestinian territory, falls under the jurisdiction of security. "When there is peace, the route will be reworked," he said. "For now, it is in disputed territory If he wins, count on France to support US-led action against Iran - which may be the real reason why the pro-Israeli crowd is paying so much attention to this election.

05-02-07 - A tale of two speeches HOWARD, unsurprisingly, matched ? and arguably trumped ? Rudd on Israel. He spoke of his ?unwavering? support for the Jewish State of Israel?s ?courageous defence of her territorial integrity? since 1948 and of his ?determination? to oppose those ?determined to deny Israel the right to exist?.
