06-18-07 - COUNTY HONORS SIX DAY WAR NAVY VETERAN FRANCIS BROWN, KILLED IN SERVICE ABOARD THE USS LIBERTY It was for Brown?s aggressiveness, composure under fire, and courageous actions in the tense waters off the Eastern Mediterranean Sea during the early afternoon hours of June 8, 1967, an engagement which at the time was the second deadliest event impacting a United States warship since the end of World War II, that he was awarded the Navy Cross and the Purple Heart Medal. It is strange that nowhere in the article does it mention just who attacked the USS Liberty.
