CNI to Publish a New York Times Ad
|
Now is your chance to stand up and be counted. Take part in this momentous movement to recapture the foreign policy of our government and put our interests where they should be - first. Stand up for the American cause - for there is no greater.
Dear Friend,
I write to you today to share some great news from the Council for the National Interest Foundation. Several very generous donors to the CNI Foundation have agreed to fund more than half the cost of placing a full-page New York Times advertisement ($49,000), hopefully in the next two weeks. If we can make up the rest of the cost of the ad ($17,000) in the next week, the ad will be placed in the "Week in Review" section, a prime location for our always-controversial message to reach the most readers. The ad would reach 1.8 million subscribers or 5 million putative readers. This is a tremendous offer, and we need your help now to make the ad a reality.
The CNI Foundation broke through a major barrier -- censorship by the nation's "newspaper of record" -- three years ago when the Times first agreed to run one of our full-page ads. That ad ("Time to Tell the Truth") and another accepted for publication last year ("AIPAC's Agenda is Not America's") have stirred the debate about the consistent bias in our Middle East policy and have awakened Americans to the perils of our continued funding of Israel's 39-year occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.
Gaza is still occupied, with the Israelis closing off the Karni commercial crossing point, leaving Palestinian produce intended for markets in Israel to rot and denying Gazans the necessary food imports that keep them alive. Dov Weissglas advised the Israeli cabinet after the Hamas victory that the Sharon/Olmert government intended to put Palestinians "on a diet." But in the nation's major media, including the influential New York Times, such Israeli policies are never shown in their true light, thanks in large part to the effectiveness of the Israel lobby.
The current ad is being drafted to point out, with the help of a professional graphic designer who has volunteered to help us, the facts about the effects of the Israel lobby on U.S. policy in Iraq and Palestine. It is tentatively titled "Hamas, America, and the Israel Lobby." As the recent Harvard study demonstrates so well, the lobby must be brought under control, and its activities made fully transparent, before we can expect a real change towards a wiser and less costly policy in the Middle East.
Please help us publish this ad by making your tax-deductible donation today. You can make a secure donation by credit card to the Council for the National Interest Foundation online at the following website. Be sure to mark the box that says "I want my donation to go to the placement of a full-page ad in the New York Times" to specify your donation for this effort. If you prefer, you can even give your donation anonymously by checking the box that says "I prefer to make this donation anonymously."
Sincerely yours,
Eugene Bird
PS: We think this is an opportunity to reach the readers of the New York Times, most of whom are deeply interested in foreign affairs and in a position to do something about the overwhelming influence of the lobby.
