News for 06-03-07

06-03-07 - 'USS Liberty' veterans demand investigation danger to our national security exists whenever our elected officials are willing to subordinate American interests to those of any foreign nation, and specifically are unwilling to challenge Israel's interests when they conflict with American interests; this policy, evidenced by the failure to defend USS Liberty and the subsequent official cover-up of the Israeli attack, endangers the safety of Americans and the security of the United States.
I want every blogger in the free world to post this story on their blog. Maybe if we can make enough noise we can force the bastards in the mainstream media to cover the 40 year anniversary of the attack on the USS Liberty. To date only 2 smaller sources have. It's a start.

06-03-07 - Questions remain over 1967 attack on U.S. intelligence ship 'Liberty' For 40 years, survivors and families of those lost aboard the USS Liberty have been waiting for their chance to sit at a congressional witness table.

06-03-07 - USS Liberty memorial this Friday @ 4 pm in Washington DC WHERE: United States Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C. It is up to us ordinary American citizens to make sure that these men and the families of the victims get their day in court. It is the least we can do to help resolve a travesty of justice that has been going on for forty years.

06-03-07 - Israel/OPT: Forty years of occupation -- no security without basic rights In its report, Amnesty International acknowledges Israel?s legitimate security concerns and the government?s obligation to protect the population within its borders, but says this does not justify blatant violations of international law, such as construction of much of the fence/wall inside the West Bank on Palestinian land.

06-03-07 - RPT-Amnesty says Israel should tear down wall The barrier Israel is building in the occupied West Bank has caused deaths and suffering among Palestinians and should be torn down, rights group Amnesty International said in a new report on Monday.

06-03-07 - Hamas Fires Mortars After Palestinian Is Killed The military wing of Hamas claimed responsibility for firing mortar shells at the Erez crossing on the Gaza-Israel border on Sunday, slightly wounding four Israeli soldiers, hours after Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in the West Bank city of Jenin.

06-03-07 - Israel: New report condemns Israel's 'blatant violation of International Law' in West Bank Amnesty International has today (4 June) criticised Israel's 'Blatant violation of international law' in the West Bank in a new report published ahead of the 40th anniversary (tomorrow) of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory.

06-03-07 - 'Wear a veil or we will behead you,' radicals tell TV women All 15 women presenters reported for work at the official Palestine Television station in Gaza yesterday, in defiance of death threats by a radical Islamic group that is believed to have links with al-Qa'ida. The Righteous Swords of Islam warned that it would strike the women with "an iron fist and swords" for refusing to wear a veil on camera. They should start carrying one of these under their robes. "No, it's not a falafel in my pocket, and I'm not glad to see you."

06-03-07 - Hebron Release: Israeli military inflicts collective punishment on Palestinians On the afternoon of Saturday 2 June, in a clear violation of international law1,
the Israeli military closed a gate in the H2 area2 of Hebron, preventing the
free movement of Palestinians and international tourists. The gate, which leads
from the Old City souk to the Ibrahimi Mosque area was closed for half an hour.

06-03-07 - Israel will continue military op in Gaza: Olmert

06-03-07 - Israeli offensive affects Abbas-Olmert meeting: Palestinian official Israeli military operations in the Palestinian territories could negatively affect an upcoming meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Sunday.

06-03-07 - Man cleared of attempted murder for 2005 attack on Palestinian Citrin and another suspect were arrested after several television crews documented right-wing extremists attempting to lynch Hilal Majaydeh, 18, in the Gaza Strip I remember that attack. It didn't involve merely 'throwing a stone', as this Haaretz article implies. The man was viciously attacked by these settlers. If I'm not mistaken, an Israeli (soldier?) stepped in to save him. Here is an older BBC report on this incident.

06-03-07 - Gaza: Women news readers protest over beheading threat

06-03-07 - Egypt, Islamic Jihad achieve common view on Palestinian issue

06-03-07 - Why stakes are so high in solving Middle East conflict

06-03-07 - Illinois Methodists to consider divestment The Rev. Danita Parra, one of 15 resolution sponsors, said Caterpillar is "profiting from illegal demolition of Palestinian homes, destruction of Palestinian economy and confiscation of Palestinian land." Parra told the Peoria Journal Star that "to say we are standing for peace and justice in the Middle East conflict and to have our pensions invested in a way as to not support that position is wrong."

06-03-07 - Israeli ministers discuss British boycott threats amid plans for retaliatory action The counter-measures include an email campaign to convince North Americans to boycott British goods and services and a threat by union workers to refuse to unload British exports to Israel. But they never consider getting their govt to comply with international law. Rocket science.

06-03-07 - Lebanese accuse civilians of helping camp militants A senior Lebanese defence ministry source last night accused Palestinian civilians of helping Fatah al-Islam militants holed up in the Naher al-Bared refugee camp, and said it would take longer than anticipated to win the battle. Itching for another Sabra and Shatila?

06-03-07 - Ahmadinejad says clock ticking to Israel's 'destruction' Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday that a countdown has begun that will end with the "destruction" of Israel by the people of Lebanon and Palestine.

06-03-07 - Fighting at second Lebanon camp "We were able, with the help of the Palestinian organisations and with the help of larger Islamic groups in the camp, to subdue their activity and contain any action from getting even larger," he said.

06-03-07 - USS Liberty facts

06-03-07 - FM formally invites Jordanian, Egyptian counterparts for talks in Israel

06-03-07 - Churches Worldwide Mobilize for Peace in Palestine, Israel

06-03-07 - Bush extends Jerusalem waiver The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote Tuesday on a non-binding resolution congratulating Israel on 40 years of reunifying the city and urging the president to make good on the 1995 law. The Senate is considering a similar resolution. Bush has consistently waived the law, as did his predecessor, Bill Clinton.

06-03-07 - House members thank Japan on Hamas Thirteen members of the U.S. House of Representatives thanked Japan for continuing its isolation of the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority

06-03-07 - 'They completely hated us' Jerusalem had been divided by a wall, and when the wall went down I found something completely different from what I expected. In 19 years there had been a change on the Israeli side. They were not the same Jews we knew [before]. They were more aggressive. And I don't know how to describe it: They completely hated us.

06-03-07 - As expected. Fox news run more MEMRI propaganda A prediction I made days ago. Fox News might as well be the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

06-03-07 - A fight that must go back to the land For the US, the war marked its move towards unconditional support for Israeli policy ? irrespective of its own, or Israel?s, national interest ? and the growth of a powerful lobby within the US political system that, despite the liberal instincts of many American Jews, is a bastion of Israel?s nationalist right ? more Likudnik than the Likud......Israel?s excuse that it has no interlocutor is unconvincing. Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, was undermined from the first by Israeli assassinations and land annexations. Those who believe this is merely a response to terrorism need to explain why the land being annexed is identical to a map first drawn up by Mr Sharon in 1982.

06-03-07 - Israel threatens British boycott Israel?s parliament is to debate a draft law today that could lead to a consumer boycott of all British goods.

06-03-07 - USS LIBERTY Survivors need your help
